2021 – EDC – San Marino – Results

entrance to the convention. Ave Caesar!

The edition XXIX of the EDC took place in San Marino on 27-29 august 2021.

This was the first big event since the Covid restrictions have been decreased, and 21 players did make it to the great venue which is San Marino.

First of all we have to thank Luca Pazzaglia for organizing this event, and Giancarlo Ceccoli for the hospitality inside the bigger San Marino Con event.
As always, the place and the accommodation are more than great. The only sad thing is that there isn’t much time for the swimming pool. Next year there should definitely be a game near the pool.

A photo right before the start. While all are still friends.

The first game, played on friday afternoon, had exactly 21 players, so there wre 3 complete boards.

On saturday three players left and all three boards were played with only 6 players and Turkey in automatic mode with decided moves. It changed something in the general strategy of the game, but all the boards were in the same situation, so there were no different treatment for noone.

Apart from the games, the best part of the tournament was of course the dinner / beer time.

General classification after the end of the tournament. Alex Lebedev won the top table, and Renè Van Rooijen managed to get second place with a very good result on the second board.
It should be pointed out, that 3 young players were present at this tournament, and they played some good games. We hope to see them also in the future with more experience.

The younger players: new Diplomacy generation is growing up.

!!IMPORTANT COVID UPDATE !!!

there are some news about the Covid safety during the San Marino EDC Convention.
Recently San Marino added some new regulations to those arriving from abroad.
In order to be able to enter San Marino you should have:

A) a Vaccination certificate, or a certificate issued after 1st april 2021 that says you have enough anticorps, or a certificate that states you recovered from Covid less than 6 months ago.

B) a certificate that you’re negative to Covid, done not more than 48 hours before entering San Marino (every airport should now have the possibility to do such test when you arrive).
